The above picture was taken at the Albuquerque Museum where our chapter had an exhibit, Pesos and Patriots, on display from January to May 2019. Many that came to the exhibit were not aware of Spain's involvement in the
American Revolutionary War. We had a college student comment they had never learned this piece of history in school. 

We are very proud of our chapter member who has researched and transcribed Spanish records for years. Her knowledge and contacts, along with the Albuquerque Museum, made for a successful exhibit that we are proud of.

PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES

PATRIOTISM
  • The chapter prepares gift bags of toiletries, clothing, books, gift cards, and other donated items for distribution to veterans at Christmas.

  • Members volunteer time to veterans.

  • We distribute pocket constitutions to local and private schools and scout troops. We promote Constitution Week in the community.

  • We participate in naturalization ceremonies.

  • Our chapter awards Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and Junior ROTC (JROTC) medals.

  • Members mail books to deployed military.

  • We promote the care and respect of the American flag and provide Braille flags to the Veterans Administration.

  • We award certificates and medals to DAR Good Citizens.

  • We lay wreaths at Santa Fe National Cemetery in December with Wreaths Across America.

HISTORICAL PRESERVATION
  • Members participate in online record transcription projects.

  • We preserve records, artifacts, and documents for the DAR Library.

  • Our chapter sponsors American History essay contests in local schools. 

EDUCATION
  • Our chapter sponsors a class at Estancia Valley Classical Academy.

  • Members donate books to foster children

  • Our chapter donated new books to six local elementary schools.

  • Members scan receipts for Box Tops for Education and save pop tabs to support DAR schools.

  • Members donate school supply items and give monetary donations as needed to DAR schools.

  • Members benefit from programs presented on American history, conservation, and women's issues.

COMMUNITY
  • Donations of food and cards for Blue Star Mothers to include in packages for troops.

  • Purses filled with toiletries and small gifts were given to several local homes for battered women.

  • Sponsor an eagle at the Albuquerque zoo.
