Members of Charles Dibrell Chapter participate in education, historic preservation, and patriotism in many ways.

March 2024 - Women in History Month started with the Charles Dibrell Chapter sponsoring an event at the downtown Library in Albuquerque. Our Member, Henrietta Martinez Christmas, a distinguished genealogist, gave a presentation on “Women in New Mexico and Your History,” highlighting the common resources for locating women but also illuminating the often-overlooked methods for discovering women in our family history.

One to three members attend each naturalization ceremony in Albuquerque, where they present each new citizen with a welcome bag containing candy, a flag sticker, a flag code leaflet, and the most important item in the bag is a sleeve for their certificate. It costs $500+ to replace a certificate if it is damaged or lost.

An annual event for Charles Dibrell Chapter, held in November, is Sand-O-Rama. Members bring items to fill gift bags for veterans at the VA hospital. The gift bags are delivered to the VA late November/ early December to be given to the patients on Christmas morning.

We start by sorting out the items on the tables so similar items are together. Once we are set up, everyone grabs a bag and walks around each table putting one of everything in the bag.

Some of the items that are regularly included in each bag are: T-shirt, socks, a deck of cards, puzzle books, pens/pencils, razors, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, lotion, kleenex, snacks, and books.

September 8, 2023 - Members gathered at Vista Verde Cemetery in Rio Rancho to place flags at the cemetery to honor each person who died on 9-11.
